World Diabetes Day

On Friday 14th November Gibraltar will once again join 160 nations in celebrating World Diabetes Day by lighting an iconic building in blue to bring diabetes to light and help raise awareness and keep diabetes firmly in the public spotlight. The day marks the birthday of Frederick Banting, who, along with Charles Best, first conceived the idea which led to the discovery of insulin in 1921.

We call upon the local diabetes community to come down to Casemates at 6.30 and join us in making our local diabetes day a truly memorable event.  We will be entertained by a troupe of cheerleaders and singing by Tiffany Ferrary whilst the forming of our now traditional human blue circle of light and life will this year feature blue Diabetes Gibraltar balloons. The highlight of our event will be the lighting of the Moorish Castle which is scheduled for 7.45 p.m. at Landport and the magic switch will be hit by our own diabetic youngsters
