Festival of Lights 2013
The Ministry of Culture has announced the programme of events for this yearís
Festival of Lights on Friday 22nd November 2013. The events are being
organised by the Ministry of Culture in collaboration with the Gibraltar Electricity
Authority (GEA) and shall be held at John Mackintosh Square.
The entertainment will be presented by Rock Masters and commences at 6pm
with live music, song and dance. The switching-on of the Christmas Lights at
7pm will be conducted by Minister of Culture, the Hon Steven Linares, His
Worship the Mayor Anthony Lima and Tyrone Davies from St Martinís School.
Father Christmas and his elves will also be making a special appearance.
Programme of events at John Mackintosh Square include:
5.30pm to 7.30pm Art and Crafts Market
6pm Tiffany Ferrary
6.10pm Dance Show by Stylos Dance Company & Urban Dance
6.40pm Bishop Fitzgerald School Choir
7pm Switch-on Christmas Lights ceremony
7.05pm Father Christmas special appearance
The event will also feature ĎMy Winesí at the Piazza (Main Street Side) from
5.30pm to 7.30pm with a selection of mulled wine, port and mince pies.
A demarcated area for wheelchair users has also being organised by the
Ministry of Culture. Persons wanting a space at the wheelchair area in front of
the stage should contact the Ministry of Culture directly on telephone 20067236
before the 21st November 2013. Wheelchair users may be accompanied by one
other person. Should the area not be taken up at 5.45pm, the area will be
released for the general public.
Following the switching-on ceremony, the illuminations will thereafter come on,
automatically, every day until the 6th January 2014, from 5.00pm until 1.00am,
and as from 9.30am on Saturdays leading to Christmas Day. As customary they
will remain on throughout the nights of Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, New
Year's Eve and the 5th January 2014.
