INTERNATIONAL DANCE WORKSHOPS
The Gibraltar National Dance Organisation is pleased to announce that professional dancers from the Errol White Dance Company will be travelling to Gibraltar to carry out a series of dance workshops. The dance workshops that will be conducted by Errol White and Davina Givan, will take place at the Tercentenary Sports Hall on the 6th & 7th June 2015. It is expected that over 150 dancers will benefit from this educational experience.
The Errol White Company seeks to produce unique dance works, with emphasis on authentic movement vocabulary and how the vocabulary of the body can be used as an abstract language.
Within EWC workshop participants will work on a wide range of repertoire that will include company class, creative work, and choreography. The sessions will build upon participants’ existing dance skills and experience, and offer opportunities to explore a range of ideas through creative, contemporary dance.
Class work will focus on skeletal alignment; articulate placement and core stability. Errol and Davina will lead the dancers to move fluidly with precision, power and strength facilitating a neutral and controlled understanding of the body’s physicality in performance. These classes provide an invaluable opportunity for the participants to fully concentrate on their own physicality within thestructures of class.
GNDO Development Officer Adrian Lopez said:
‘I am delighted that my friends Errol and Davina, who I used to train and work with professionally, will be travelling to Gibraltar to share their talent and experience with our dance community.
There are a lot of talented dancers and choreographers in our community. I believe sometimes you need to offer them different styles or different ways in creating movements. This could be very refreshing for dancers as well as teachers; it would certainly take them away from their daily dancing environment, and surely give them the extra bit of inspiration.’
The daylong workshops with classes in Modern and Contemporary Dance will be adapted to the students’ abilities so that they can perform in front of an audience of dance teachers, parents and friends. The workshops are open to young students of all abilities aged seven onwards. The GNDO calls on all dance enthusiasts not to miss this educational opportunity.
The workshops will cost £10 per class or £15 for both days. For further information and timetables please contact the GNDO on telephone 58069000 or e-mail: firstname.lastname@example.org or visit the On Pointe Dance Shop. Workshops are restricted to 50 dancers per class so register early to avoid disappointment.
Closing date for entries is Monday 1st June 2015.
